Show THE INDIGNATION MEETING Tonight the Grand Army of the Republic Repub-lic hold an indignation meeting at the Federal Court room to give proper expression ex-pression concerning the insult offered to I the nationaVflag on July 4th by the Mormons Mor-mons of this city We cannot ccnceive what good will come of the meeting especially es-pecially as indignation meetings lose much of their weight if held some eight das after the occurrence of the thing complained com-plained of Saturday last Monday last at the latest was the proper time for such a meeting when it would have been spontaneous Already great indignation indig-nation has been expressed by all classes of citizens without reference party and will be some togo over the matter again what monotonous as every one has said all lie had to say concerning the matter If a public meeting was to be called why was it not called earlier Can inflammatory inflam-matory speeches aid matters now no matter how great the indignation It is safe tosay that such a thing will not occur oc-cur again and such a meeting now will be but a stirring up of strife that can do no good The City Council have performed their duty in the matter as public servants by endorsing en-dorsing the hoisting of the flag at half mast and giving unstinted praise to those who did it Could anything more be asked of them than to do the bidding of their masters who placed them in their position They have shown that they are independent in every respect and in no way subject to any influences other than a high sense of right and public responsibility re-sponsibility Ifthe hoisting of the flag I at halfmast on the Fourth is kept on I duty too long it is apt to suffer from too much protesting just as the too much protesting of their loyalty and love for the Constitution by the Peoples party makes people doubt of them We believe that tonights meeting is impolitic and that nothing will be gained by it All citizens were justly indignant at the action of the city and comity authorities au-thorities in regard to tile flag and were right in expressing their indignation when and how they did but as we have before said the meeting tonight can result in no special good and cannot express indignation indigna-tion more properly or more emphatically than the citizens themselves did on the Fourth when they demanded that the flags on the public buildings be raised to the top of the staffs and their demands were complied with |
