Show LAST NIGHTS CITY COUNCIL I Will Consider the A Committee Vil COlsl1cr Protection < rccnjroccrs > Cry for The City Council met last evening at the appointed hour with Mayor Sharp in the chair The petition of the greengrocers green-grocers asking that one or more necessary marketplaces be established where all hucksters shall be compelled to sell their produce on three days of the week and before 10 oclock in the morning as is customary in all regulated cities bore the signatures of 187 greengrocers of the city Several motions followed the reading of the prayer for its disposition dis-position It was referred to the committee com-mittee on markets The farmers of Bountiful who largely furnish garden truck to Salt Lake presented pre-sented an offsetting petition imploring the city fathers for protection in the disposition dis-position of their allsustaining produce They claimed that it would be a great injustice in-justice to force them to sell their produce before 10 oclock a m This request was signed by fiftyeight farmers and Coffee John the Main Street dealer Referred to committee on markets lf Chadd petitioned for remission of license in carrying on a small grocery stand on account of his being poor a cripple and the extreme dullness of times Referred to license committee J E S Russell asked that certain licenses I censes which were due running billiard I and pool tables and for water which were unpaid at the tine of his assignment be remitted as he was totally insolvent Referred Re-ferred to license committee Auer Murphy Ewing and Fallen Brown AVhitingMcTierny Dimvoodey P Margetts and Henry AAragner were granted retail liquor licenses REPORTS The Police Justice submitted his report for the month of May The total number of cases tried was J 16 dismissed 14 Fines assessed il52325 cash fines 1 02815 Amount paid city treasurer 1 01210 The report was referred to the police committee G 1f Ottinger chief engineer of the fire department submitted a report for the quarter ending May 31st as follows Total number of fires 4 loss 3073 insurance in-surance 5000 number of miles traveled 21 number of feet of hose used 2600 The expenditures for the quarter amounted amount-ed to 47258 and a balance of 7123 remained re-mained on hand AVatermaster AVinder submitted his report re-port of expenditures during the quarter ending May 31st The total amount expended ex-pended was 157286 leaving a balance on hand of 88625 On the Jordan Salt Lake City Canal the watermaster had expended 92140 Balance remaining in canal fund 1 07860 The amount expended on Liberty Park during the quarter was 50914 leaving a balance in the fund of 54558 The sum of 2288 had been expended on the Dry Canyon scheme and 86059 of the appropriation remained Water masters reports were referred to the proper prop-er committees The amount of 50 was appropriated to F AV Taylor for services in the assessor and collectors office and 1000 was voted to the street supervisors contingent fund The city recorder stated that the city sealer of weights and measures had fed his report showing the number of scales and measures sealed and corrected by I him during the last six months The Council then adjourned |
