Show APPOINTEES There arc a number of our fellow townsmen arc said to be applicants for various offices Some are worthy and some are not That there is great need of a change and improvement the Fed oral oflicors now here is generally conceded con-ceded With the exception of two or three of the present incumbents all might be spared with profit perhaps with pleasure The judgeship of the First Judicial District will soon be made vacant by the resignation of Mr Justice Emerson The judgeship of the Second Judicial District is filled by a gentleman who has not the confidence confi-dence of the bar a thing which is most essential It is for political polit-ical improvement we seek and naught else for many of the gentlemen gentle-men who fill the more important offices are leaders in society and are said to be most genial and excellent company of this wo know nothing The position of the Territory is such that there should be brought to bear on all questions arising here and they are many and intricate the best minds to be found but the salaries are not such as to always do this The subject of appointees is a large and important one and demands de-mands a much fuller and more thorough treatment than we can give it today It may be well to say in this connection connec-tion that the Territorial Central Committee Commit-tee of the Democratic Party have taken i jio action nor intended to take any action ac-tion officially on the various applica I tions that rumor says have been made to them Various members of the committee commit-tee have signed petitions for appointment in their individual capacity and this is the head and front of their offense Our own position is scrutin d arrondis sement if we can scrutin de listc if we must |
