Show T 1 N r MORE TINTIC GLEANINGS 1 I I lUio Zip Gives the Cnuip Anotlici I I HoundUp i The purpose of this third letter from i Tintic is to mention some matters nol embraced in the others written from this I district The first letter from Eureka on its arrival i rival was read by everybody and of course created a general public discussion discus-sion on several points mentioned in it thai I gave the DEMOCRAT a publicity could not otherwise have been obtained as it was read by scores whose attention was brought to it by the remarks they heard pro and con The general verdict was that the DEMOCRAT correspondent has hit the nail on the head and that by him some matters of importance had been NAILED TO TiE CROSS The matter that raised the hottest debate mater bate was the reference made about hotels and accommodation for travelers The proprietors of the place where your correspondent cor-respondent stopped made a big kick because be-cause the truth was told However they found but few sympathizers the public in general sat down on them and stood by the DEMOCRAT ICRAT Let it be said right here that it is the of correspondents to duty newspaper correspondent point out events in public and private life and that whenever he finds disorders dis-orders of any kind which can be remedied rem-edied as well as not that he should show them up before the public Your representative repre-sentative would be the last to in anyway any-way do injnry to any business or any man that in furnishing news for the public he has always confined himself to the truth so far as he knew and in pointing out the illconditioned affairs of any sort it is no consequence to him where or whom the truth may strike There is no apologetic word in i this for apology is Uplogetic question when the truth is spoken A SCHEME NIPPED IN TIE BUD Mr Frank Dyer of Park City was recently re-cently in Eureka his object in view being be-ing the construction of a steam tramway from the mines to Ironton a distance of nearly six miles He would have given bonds to have had the tramway built and running in thirty days from signing of contract and his project would probably have become an actual fact were it not the intention of the railroad company to build a branch line up to the mines I is rumored that the construction contracts are already let but when work will be commenced or the line be finished could not be learned I this branch is built and doubtless it will be the merchants of the camp are not so apt to suffer then as they do now the petty annoyances of having the goods tampered with while being transported Hardly ever does a case of canned fruit beer or other stuff get through unless the railroad hands help themselves to a bottle or a can and when asked as to what becomes of these missing bottles and cans they either decline de-cline to answer or with a nonchalant air reply I dont know Several TINHORN KNIGHTS OF TIlE GREEN CLOTh Are here anxiously awaiting payday in the hopes of scooping plenty of dust from the gambling miners The tinhorn gambler that hang around a mining I camp waiting for payday that he may pocket the money of hardworking people is as bad as the undertaker who stations himself and a coffin in front of a sick mans house and then waits for him to die so that he can sell the family a coffin To call such gamblers is a misnomer and miners would do society a service to bar them from all games or better hang Ihem whenever they made footprints in a mining camp For the last two weeks business has + been somewhat dull and cash rather scarce This has been owing to payday having been postponed for reasons no fellow can find out I however rumored ru-mored that the men will be paid off this week consequently every night is looked Forward to with great interest and longing The event puts NEARLY 50000 IN CIRCULATION Therefore no wonder its of so much importance and doubly welcomed when out off for a couple of weeks Right here is a good place to correct what a typographical mistake made it appear in the first letter from here that the payroll of the Eureka Company was only 12000 when in fact it was over 21000 2100 The business of the camp is controlled by three stores two of which carry a stock of nearly 15000 each That the people live on the fat of the land is evident evi-dent enough from the tables set at the hotels and the boarding houses Vegetable Vege-table and fruit peddlers do a landoffice business selling truck in their line The remarks made by our your correspondent correspon-dent about the condition of the streets in this town were goodnaturedly and suggestively sug-gestively taken for fast Saturday a street cleaning was commenced at the upper end of the camp The good work will probably not be discontinued till the I whole town has been put in order and I when next the DEMOCRAT man visits Eureka he anticipates finding thing in I I better shape MILOZIP i |
