Show 5 million library nearly finished Library expected to be complete in May Ma operational by fall t Paul Stevenson Staff Writer HE new library building is T THE scheduled for completion sometime in May according to Gordon Young public services services ser ser ser- vices librarian Our plan is to be fully operable by this coming fall quarter Young said We dont don't anticipate any problems or long delays The physical move of library materials from the current library in the TB building to the new location is set to take place during the summer break Saturday June 12 to Monday June 21 The new library will be six times the size of the old one Young said The biggest benefit will be more space with more carrells for studying and privacy and more room to expand the book collection We also will have facilities r C r- r ra a aj j 5 0 1 r for people with disabilities Young said Weve gone to grea great t lengths to make sure people with disabilities will feel comfortable any place in the new library The new library will have wheelchair height tables and good access Young said There also will be some new services offered Computer word processing with 15 computers five more than now three laser printers and a lab assistant Disability resource room with assistance available Conference rooms avail avail- able Six group study rooms with media viewing capabilities Staffed copy center plus three operated coin-operated copiers New local area with all the current systems combined so the programs can be accessed from any terminal r This will allow for more simultaneous simultaneous simul simul- use and less ess tion Eloise technical technical j cal services librarian said that volunteers are needed to help with the labor intensive ac activities activities activities ac- ac of packing and unpacking unpack unpack- ing library materials We will ill provide the training training training train train- ing she said We can use all the help we can get A continued benefit of the library is the reciprocal borrowing borrowing borrowing borrow- borrow ing agreement between all schools of higher education in Utah Young said Students with current student student student stu stu- stu- stu dent ID can check out books in any Utah college or university and return the books to their own college if that is more e convenient Students can borrow the books for two weeks but should return the books three days early because of mailing Young said i ti |
