Show Troops see h highest death toll in two years this month F Cassie Newman Contributing Writer With October has come one of the worst week two-week stretches of deaths upon our US U.S. Military in the past two years on fighting the war As of Oct 21 2006 the American Forces death toll rose to 78 making October the deadliest month for our soldiers serving in Iraq this year With more than a week left October surpassed April which held the highest death toll at 76 Since the wars war's inception on March 19 2003 total deaths confirmed by the Department of Defense are 2784 Seven deaths are still pending The last few weeks have been rough for our troops in Iraq and for the Iraqi people said President Bush on Oct 21 2006 during his weekly radio address The fighting is difficult but our nation has seen difficult fights before In World War II and the Cold Var War earlier generations of Americans sacrificed so that we can live in freedom This generation will go its duty as well Not only did Bush address the hardships of our troops but he also inquired about the adversity of the Iraqi people Since the invasions beginning in 2003 an estimated Iraqis have fled their homes according to Ron Redmond chief spokesman for the UN U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees During President Bushs Bush's last visit to Utah on Aug 30 2006 he addressed similar thoughts regarding the war on terror while trying to remind the public what they are fighting for Iraq is the central centra front frontin in this war on terror he said If we leave the streets of Bagdad before the job is done we will have to face the terrorists in our own cites Although Bush has stressed the issue of fighting the war a poll conducted by Fox News on Oct 10 and 11 found that three in four Americans 73 percent agreed it is time to send the US U.S. troops home |
