G Bass Bass' Contributing Writer 1 It is the big thing of the said Hancock Co- Co year Katy chairperson of the Salt Lake Community College Student Association Monster Mash r This year it proved 4 to be no different Nearly students crowded into the gymnasium at South City Campus on October 27 for more than just justa a school Halloween Stomp In addition to DJ Tracy Chapman and the stomp there were all sorts of extra ties Students and some ty took advantage of the Sumo wrestler costumes the inflatable obstacle course and Velcro wall Attendees of this years year's Monster Mash were also welcomed by an array of refreshments and a very festive atmosphere The gym was decorated decorated decorated deco deco- rated comer corner by a small smaIl army of student volunteers The Campus Campus- Activities Board of which both Hancock and her co- co chair Janelle Milano are members members members mem- mem bers gathered early in the day dayon on the to transform rm the gym into something undeniably undeniably undeniably ably festive There Ther were pumpkins pumpkins pumpkins pump pump- kins streamers and all sorts of decorations including an entrance transformed into a looking cave-looking portal Its uIt's good hanging with your friends said student student student stu stu- stu- stu dent and attendee Emily Roberts who was in costume like many other people at the Monster Mash There were hippies monsters monsters monsters mon mon- and angels In addition there were also a couple dressed as toilet paper rolls roIls and another couple decked from head to toe in formal wear made from duct tape Students were welcome welcome welcome wel wel- come to attend and many did who did not choose to wear Halloween costumes There was a costume contest for the most creative costumes The event was advertised advertised advertised adver adver- all over each campus for more than a week before hand Its awesome everybody everybody everybody every every- body should attend said Student Vice President President-of of Campus Activities Lynsey Morris before the event began The Campus Activities Board with Hancock and Milano in the lead also brought in several entertainers for the Monster Mash There was a Hypnotist and Palm Reader on hand to add to the atmos atmos- phere The Palm Reader was vas getting so much attention and creating such a line early in inthe inthe the evening he had to stop analyzing handwriting to get the line moving more quickly This years year's Monster fx Mash may prove to be the r wT biggest event of the year again but the attendance was down from last year by nearly a hundred people This semester students arent aren't as involved They have harder classes and less time said Hancock I just hope students students students stu stu- dents want to come to other activities and belong to their school said Milano adding I hope they see the fun part of Overall the students r rin in attendance at this Monster Mash appeared to have a great time The organizers volunteered volunteered volunteered volun volun- many hours of effort to tomake make that happen I |
