Show I Letters to the Editor r v. v t. t l' l V.- V. 1 L' L t Dear Editor I live about ten minutes away but because of the parking problem we seem to have I leave my house a half hour early just to get geta a decent parking spot I made the mistake of leaving later than usual last Tuesday morning I drove around the parking lotson lots lotson lotson on all sides of the campus searching for anything that looked open Looking at the clock periodically ly I then noticed that I was twenty minutes late to class which in turn rum caused me to have serious road rage against other students stuck in the same dilemma I decided I should just give up and go home I figured there wasn t anything anything anything any any- thing I could do and obviously I wasn t the only one having problems parking As I started to turn around and give up I noticed a student walking from the SI building to the parking lot It looked like she was going home for the day so I decided ed to sit tight and watch where she was headed She obviously had a hard time finding a spot earlier that morning because when she finally got to her car it was at the very end of the parking lot Trying not to look like a shark I followed her pretending pretend pretend- ing to be looking for an open space Once she entered her car and I saw the brake lights go on I let out a sigh of relief I quickly pulled into the space Sure it was wasa a long walk to the TB building and I hated every minute of it but I figured I was one of the lucky ones not to be stuck driving in circles any longer Yes editor I m full of complaints because my wonderful day didn t tend end there Once I actually got to class I had to sit outside on the grass with the sun I. I beating down on my head because our class didn t have a classroom along with the many other classes told to meet in the foyer I could barely hear my teacher and I could tell he was also frustrated with the classroom situation therefore it made it difficult to concentrate on anything other than how bad I wished I would have went with my first idea and just went home By the end of class my back was aching from being arched while trying to write notes on the lecture I could barely hear As I got up to leave I overheard a teacher comment on how they 11 soon be giving her sidewalk chalk to teach with Let s just say I totally understood her frustration I m guessing the parking situation is due to the lot that was torn tom up due to the overwhelming overwhelming overwhelming over over- whelming need to re-pave re it And as far faras faras faras as the classrooms go I only have one question question question ques ques- tion isn t there someone being paid to schedule the classes in the right amount of rooms If so are they not aware that it s probably not too smart to overbook the school and not have any sort of solution to the problem other than to send the teachers and students out to the lawns or lounges My other question is what is going to happen when it gets colder Think about it I feel and I m sure I m not alone in my opinion that we students struggle every semester to come up with tuition money With that there come expectations such as classrooms desks and teachers I don t feel that s too much to ask for but apparently apparently it is w Rachel Warner Freshman W 2 4 Communication s Dear Editor This morning I walked into one of the themen's themen's themen's mens men's restrooms in the student center and saw packaged condoms on the urinals and sinks My first reaction was awesome awesome awesome awe awe- some I thought that it was really cool that someone is leaving condoms for students students students stu stu- stu- stu dents to take if they want them I started thinking and there isn't really anywhere on campus where students can get condoms without being totally embarrassed They might have them in the health center but that could be for some peo peo- So seeing the condoms in the rest restroom restroom restroom room was really cool Then a few hours later I was back in the same rest room and saw that someone had gathered up all the condoms and threw them in the trash Why would someone throw them away I thought I was in college not Condoms cost money and someone is paying for these and is trying to help people people peo peo- people If you dont don't want to use a condom then dont don't take one but dont don't throw them away Come on lets let's be adults If you arent aren't sexually active that's dont don't keep people from using condoms to save their life or someone else's because you dont don't believe in being sexually active City Weekly June 13 2002 reported that people testing positive for HIV in this last year has increased by dramatic dramatic dramatic dra dra- dra- dra matic amounts Condoms arent aren't just about birth control anymore Condoms save peoples people's lives In case you weren't aware unprotected sex can give a person person HIV and HIV my leads to AIDS which leads to DEATH As a student of health and medicine Im I'm all f for r keeping people alive and giving them the tools to help them do so This is so sad There are people in this this' world that are trying to help save lives and promote health It is completely inexcusable inexcusable inexcusable able that some people want to apply their beliefs of morals and sexuality on every- every If one s x By throwing away the condoms in hi the i f bathroom what are you trying to accomplish accomplish accomplish You certainly arent aren't keeping people people peo peo- pie from being sexually active What would you think if those condoms that you threw away could have saved several r that are afraid to go buy condoms or ask for condoms Is it better betterto to promote your beliefs about sexuality or oris oris oris is it better to just leave the condoms there if you dont don't want them and let someone take them who can use them possibly saving saving saving sav sav- ing their lives Before you rush to throw throwaway away condoms you see in hi the bathroom think about throwing away someone's life you could have saved by leaving the condoms there for those who use them C Aaron Cloward Surgical Technology Student Letters to the editor express the opinions opinions ions of their authors and not necessarily the views of the newspaper or Salt Lake Community College I Letters must be signed and sent to Students should include their academic year and major Faculty and staff should include their depart- depart ments mens And AHl all letters e sh should include a aphone 7 Aa phone number and email emall address where the author can be reached |
