J Sha Shaw tv in Editor-in-Chief REDWOOD-On REDWOOD April 10 from 9 am a.m. to 3 pm p.m. the Lifetime 1 Activities Center will fill to its capacity with over area businesses These include Fairchild t- t Semiconductor Salomon Smith Barney Snowbird and St. St Marks Mark's Hospital to name a few With the current economy economy economy my being what it is Associate Professor of Marketing Barbara Willett is worried about the economy having having having-an an effect on the turnout at this years year's Job Expo Relatively new to the landscape of Utah she arrived from Mississippi to teach at just a year ago However she is very familiar with problems problems problems lems students are facing in a job market that is ultra-competitive ultra and stressful and would like to help in any way she can We want to give the students opportunities to speak to employers said Willett Willett is convinced that every booth in the LAC will willbe willbe be sold to businesses at 85 dollars dollars dollars dol dol- dol- dol lars each so they can conduct their interviews and get to know each student along with making back the money the Department of Marketing spent for this years year's event We hope students will find a future career and we can assure them of enough prospective employers she said Also we have several of the employment agencies coming out said Willett as she rattled off the list of businesses who have already committed and that will include full time part time and temporary employers to fill every niche in inthe inthe inthe the job market today The event has grown to almost five times its size since its inception where its roots were laid down in the College Center Willett believes stu students students students dents can assure employers that there is enough interest from those who dont don't want to flip burgers after they graduate and move on into a career they can feel comfortable doing To entice fellow Bruins she has arranged for some of the businesses like Abbott Technologies to give giveaway giveaway giveaway away prizes at the door Other employers will also donate their wares as well And one other thing A Hummer will be parked outside of of the LAC building as well as asa asa asa a climbing wall and bungee run for students to enjoy And all according to Willett will be free and that includes continental breakfast In fact the only thing in the building that will cost anything is lunch sold for a seemingly reasonable 2 fee Her 1910 class has worked long hours in her view and deserves to see the fruits of their labor going to good use Over 30 students registered registered registered regis regis- for the 1910 class and are anxious fo opportunity opportunity opportunity to see how their event turns out Willett says that although the students have worked long hours in some cases to get things ready they are optimistic and hope the students students students stu stu- stu- stu dents will come out and talk to the corporations They students should really come out to see what is out there for them said Willett tt referring to the businesses who are looking for help The annual Job Expo is sponsored by Abbott Laboratories Fed Ex Ground Fed Ex Air Comm Comm and SOS Staffing A E 1 j |
