Show Stop labelling Nelson Mandela Dear Editor A guest editorial by Mr Darren Knott titled Why Nelson Mandela in the July 11 1990 issue of the Horizon obviously portrays the extent of the writers writer's knowledge and how misinformed he is about Mandela and the purpose of his world campaign against the apartheid regime of the South African government The writer questions Mandela's heroes welcome to the Uni United ed States and seems to suggest that Americans ought not to support support support sup sup- port his cause against an oppressive oppressive oppressive op op- op- op racist regime that has persecuted his majority people for more than years He labelled Mr Mandela Mandela Mandela Man Man- dela and the ANC African National Congress as an avowed Marxist group because because because be be- cause of his allegiance to Arafat and Fidel Castro He forgot or purposely omitted that Mr Mandela stated clear clear- ly on national television that his alliance with these three leaders and other world leaders was due to their unrelenting un unrelenting relenting support to their cause against apartheid That Thatis is not unusual to Americas America's support to its alliances such as China even when all things are not equal And Mr Mandela has never condoned the terrorism from any of these countries against Americans he simply refused to address the affairs of any other sovereign nation for reasons that they have a much more unending battle facing him and his folks at home Again the writer misinforms misinforms misinforms forms the readers when he stated that tha t Mr Mandela lima made de a few racist remarks concerning the Jews False All Mandela's remarks were to the effect that the nation of Israel and the Jews must recognize the right of the Palestinians to exist and return their homeland to them He made it clear that the Palestinians must respect Israels Israel's right of existence Nothing racist about those suggestions and Mr Mandela is certainly not a bigot as implied implied im im- implied im- im plied by the writer Contrary to Mr vIr Knotts Knott's opinion major inroads toward the change of apartheid apartheid apartheid apart apart- heid have not been made and that is why Congress never even considered lifting any of the sanctions against apartheid South Africa Unfortunately the writer would prefer the status quo quoin quoin quoin in the oppressive racist and non-democratic non regime of South Africa since his article was chiefly concerned about defamation of the 72 year old ANC leader Nelson Mandela and fear that his movement will lid destroy a longtime ally Mr Knott why such a priority Philip M.
