Show n u un m nn n America is not a whiner nation Dear Editor I would like to respond to the editorial by Darren Knott Is America becoming a whiner nation Mr Knott makes the point that much of American business business business busi busi- ness and industry is withering withering withering wither wither- ing on the vine And the reason for this is people want to get everything they can out of the company and couldn't care less whether they give anything back He also states Providing a job is not an obligation of an employer neither is lavishing praise and thanks on a worker who fulfills his hisor hisor hisor or her part of the contract Then later the point he attempts attempts attempts at at- tempts to make is Production Production Production tion is the key to economic success and the key to production is having a good attitude about work Id I'd like Jike to say in the long longrun longrun longrun run you will never be successful successful successful success success- ful running a business or organization organization organization or or- unless you can surround yourself with good dependable loyal people If you want to g get t and keep good dependable loyal people you need to be sure you treat them well All people want to feel worthwhile When so much of ones one's life and identity isone's is isone's isone's ones one's occupation it is important important important tant to feel good about it Good managers and employers will go out of their way to compliment an employee doing a good job Just as they should go out of their way to let an employee know about a poor job per per- An acknowledgement of ones one's performance can make a fair performance become an excellent performance orice once the employee finds out someone someone someone some some- one cares A smart employer knows this is one of the greatest motivational tools he has at his disposal Also it does not cost him a dime just a little bit of effort Mr Knott has his finger on the problem of American business and industry He just has it backwards If you want an employee to care then you had better care about that employee Otherwise Otherwise Otherwise Other Other- wise Mr Knotts' Knotts theory becomes becomes becomes be be- comes self The employees you will be left with will be the whiners Matt Lewis Utah State Legislature is foolish Dear Editor The Utah State Legislature should be given a fools fool's award for shooting down house bill which would have increased the fines for speeding through school zones Vi Js r It sickens me to think that they would have the audacity to hastily pass the strictest abortion bill in the country claiming to protect the unborn unborn unborn un un- un- un born but continue to deny living children the protection they deserve Legislators claim that the fines collected from the speeders wouldn't cover the expense of paying for the needed crossing guards so they want the school districts to foot the bill This is a ludicrous demand on the state school districts who already al already already al- al ready dont don't have enough money to adequately educate our children It seems like our state lawmakers lawmakers lawmakers law law- makers do not have their priorities in order Do our legislators care are more about money than people especially especial especial- ly our children This bill should have passed without question and it is obvious that the money money should come from public safety Or even better if the them m moral ral majority is willing to fork out money via a special fund to protect their precious precious precious pre pre- cious abortion bill why dont don't they do the same to protect our precious school children This just proves to me again that they dont don't care as they claim about the children who have already been born but will go to any length to protect stupid unrealistic unrealistic unrealistic un un- un- un realistic causes Pat Moses Good Job Horizon Dear Editor I am not a student at Road I would like to add some specifics to his comments The light changes so quickly that you get caught half to three-quarters three of the way across Brad almost got his there one day by a state vehicle Cars seem to jump the light or run it quite often so you really dont don't even have that much time Some of the students who cross there are arc physically handicapped and cannot begin to walk fast enough I am not handicapped handicapped handicapped hand hand- and I c cant can't nt make mae e it across If the college values life and the quality thereof should it not be concerned with the safety of its students students students stu stu- stu- stu dents Surely the college has enough pull to get this issue addressed by the proper authorities As I write this article an accident has taken place at atthe atthe atthe the very intersection of which I speak 91 28 1020 am a.m. Mary J.
