Show I t t t f K i 7 J 7 t It 4 Jf II J t i 1 I I i RI R- R 7 t. v Bru BruThe Bruins ins Basketball Finale The Bruin Basketball Team recently completed a a successful season by anyone's standards They pulled together a team late in the summer that went wenton on to win 23 of their 31 games The Bruins almost made it to the playoffs If it had not been for the fact that 2 of the Bruins region losses came at the hands of the Vikings from Ricks College the Bruins would have been involved in the 4 team playoff for the National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament The Bruins had a tough traveling traveling- schedule this year The only team to out- out travel the Bruins in the 87 86 season may have been the Harlem Globetrotters Getting a late start forced the Bruins to schedule 21 out of their 31 games on the road Altogether the coaches and players traveled approximately to miles in Vans In addition to the miles traveled were the 23 or so nights spent away from home in hotels and motels depending on which group a player chose to travel with The Basketball team experienced its share of ups and downs There were quite a few outstanding performances George Hardin had 33 points against Colorado Mountain college 10 of which came by way of the SLAM DUNK George also had 11 rebounds and several blocked shots combined with a steak dinner made his 33 pt birthday one to remember Mike Taylor came close on several occasions to the 33 pt mark set by George l- l j. j but fell short 3 times with 32 32 and 31 points Mike also had a string of 6 games with 20 or more points The Team leader was Ronn McMahon He led the team in assists with an average of 10 per game and steals with almost 4 per game Ronn also averaged more than 12 points and 3 rebounds a game Ronn was the inspirational leader of the team having the ability to motivate others around him to higher levels of play Team members also had the opportunity to add to their experiences off ff of the court Activities ranged from trips to Tijuana to spending a relaxing afternoon in a mammoth sized hot springs in Colorado Whether success is measured athletically or academically and socially the Bruins enjoyed more than their share Tony Cannon Basketball player |
