Show Houskeeper heads to Ricks Dec. 5 at Flathead Valley Community Com-munity College in Kalispell, Mont. All 10 teams in the region will play each other home and away to determine de-termine the top four teams who will compete in early March 1987 for the right to enter the national finals in Hutchinson, Kan. Also signed is Tom Ahlquist, a 6-5 forward from West Valley, Utah. Attending Ricks on a Presidential Scholarship, Scholar-ship, Ahlquist is a pre-medicine major and "a hard worker." Another signee is Paul Davis, a 6-5 forward out of Corvallis, Ore., and ' Doug Hart, a 6-2 guard from Skyline Sky-line High School in Idaho Falls. "We're not through recruiting," says Gardner, making it a practice to look at other players whenever possible, including team candidates candi-dates from New Mexico, Nevada' -and Washington. The Vikings will open the season on the road Nov. 15, returning .: home for a tourney Nov. 21-22. , They will compete in a tourney in j Casper, Wyo., during Thanksgiving Thanksgiv-ing and will open Region 18 play. REXBURG-Greg Houskeeper, who helped Woods Cross High School to their first ever 4-A state basketball championship, is planning plan-ning to attend Ricks College of Rexburg, Ida. this coming year. The 6-9 swingman has returned recently from a two-year LDS mission mis-sion and decided upon his return to not return to Idaho State University Universi-ty where he played his freshman season. The former Utah 'Player of the Year' high school will be joining seven other sophomores on the team coached by Gary Gardner. Coach Gardner will tiave three returning players and four red-shirts red-shirts when the 1986-87 basketball season starts this fall. Gardner, who will be starting his sixth season sea-son at the helm of the Vikings, will bring a 1 16-45 overall record into the season. - - ' Returning from last year's 19-1 1 team will be the second-highest scorer in 5-10 guard Gerald Rid-dick. Rid-dick. Riddick blistered the nets at a 17.2 point per game clip. He will be joined at the guard position by Trent Shippen of Rigby, returning from a LDS Church mission. Ship-pen, Ship-pen, a starter on the 1983-84 team that placed sixth nationally, averaged aver-aged 7.5 points a game and led the team in freethrow shooting accura- . cy at 83 percent. The four redshirts are 5-6 Brett Johnson of Bonneville High School in Idaho Falls, 6-5 Scott Hart of Idaho Falls High School and 6-8 Leon Anderson, a brother of Ken, from Gooding. All three worked out with the 1983-84 team prior to serving Church missions. Also back is 6-3 guard Hal Schofield of Syracuse, Utah, a redshirt from the. ' 1984-85 team. Schofield is a younger youn-ger brother of Jeff, leading scorer-, on the 1985-86 team and a signee at Weber State for this fall. , - Signing letters-of-intent with'! Ricks College are five high school seniors. They are highly-recruited Clint : Bean, "the best freshman we picked pick-ed up," according to Gardner. The 6-9 American Fork, Utah, youngs- ters averaged 18.6 points a game as a senior in high school, shot at 58 percent from the field, had 8.3 rebounds re-bounds and blocked six shots.
