| Show Do You Care by Cal Corbridge Cartridge During the current UTe elections only I 11 I of the entire student- student body voted This included day night and downtown students There are three main reasons why students display apathy or lack of involvement these are I 1 they dont don't really care about student affairs 2 they dont don't have the time to get involved and 3 the school does not provide what the average student student student stu stu- dent involved wants or needs Students go to school for foran foran foran an education to learn a vocation vocation vocation voca voca- tion and to be able to handle the real world They dont don't seem to care what goes on around them Just to give one most recent example The Senate along with the officers offered one year full-year tuition for the winner of a contest to design a new Utah Technical College Seal This was a full years year's tuition which includes three quarters at S I a quarter starting fall tall quarter quarter quarter ter We had one olle person turn in a design and that was late How many students really care enough to stop and notice exactly what is going on Apparently not many How many of us really want to stop and take the time to do something other than go to school go to work then sleep and do the same thing over again the next day The officers have a variety of things for people to do yet no one will take the time to enjoy them Oh I have to go goto goto goto to class or I have to go eat lunch are among the most common replies I feel most of the people are afraid they might enjoy something if they took the time to get involved ARE YOU AFRAID Then again we have to look at the type of people these activities are for Sometimes Sometimes Sometimes Some Some- times I wonder if the people who plan the activities know that the average student now attending is 26 years old married and working You would think that these activities are for the high school students who plan on oncoming oncoming oncoming coming to next year Dont Don't get me wrong I feel that most of the activities have been great but what about the average 26 year old who is married and working working working work work- ing How does he lie feel Maybe if he lie cared enough to take the time and get involved we could find out Do you care Do you have havethe havethe havethe the time Are these activities for you Eleven percent of the voting was a high that has not been hit for quite sometime But is I 11 I percent really all that much Apathy and lack o of f participation tion lets let's hope its it's not a disease that spreads and lets let's hope YOU dont don't get it |
