C electricity instructor Harold Weir in new Utah Boys Ranch cottage now under construction in Kearns Electricity Students Lend Helping Hand Land Get Experience From Boys Ranch First quarter electricity students are involved in a you scratch my back and Ill I'll scratch your back routine at the Utah Boys Ranch West South in Kearns The students some 25 of them are doing the electrical wiring on a anew anew anew new housing unit at the Ranch The project is giving the students much- much needed practical J experience Harold Weir electricity C instructor says the students spend V about three hours each weekday working at the ranch cottage now under construction This is the third cottage to be built at the ranch and the first one to involve Utah Tech students Weir says the electricity department department department depart depart- ment got into the project as a replacement for the Wasatch Electric Co which was supposed to tobe tobe tobe be doing the wiring A business overload there opened the door forthe forthe for forthe the college Using electrical materials donated by Wasatch Electric Co the students install light fixtures wall sockets light switches rough wiring conduit condu t wiring power boxes v and even do some electrical designing The designing comes as a result of construction changes that left numerous dark areas in the bedrooms and hallways Weir says the students solved the lighting problem with directional spot lights Cottages at the Kearns ranch are built and operated solely from donated donated donated do do- labor materials and money Most of the volunteer construction has come from vocational students from K Kearns arns Cyprus and Granger High Schools The acre 26 26 ranch operation provides provides provides pro pro- vides housing for boys who need ahome a ahome home away from home in an agricultural agricultural agricultural agri agri- cultural environment a chance to withdraw from an inadequate family or social condition that has led them into various kinds of trouble The aim of the ranch is to provide a complete home situation to train boys academically and voc voc- Residents of the cottages who range in age from 7 to 18 attend area schools |
