Show I 1 neria in I 1 1 I 1 the funeral of james jamer edward ed stevens long ion tims time alandi resident was held in the blanding blan sins ward chapel sunday at 2 pm under the direction of bisho grant L bayles mr air stevens 5 W q 4 1 I 1 1 1 SIR STEVENS died last friday after several weeks illness speakers at the blanding service were john D r rogers former bishop of blanding and nephew nepha vv of the deceased hattie R barton life long friend of the family albert R lyman and bishel bishop bayles A sonin law william C black uttered the invocation and a son horace pronounced the benediction A granddaughter grand daughter miss doris black of monticello played a abiano selection while a double mixed quartet ssang sang 0 two numbers some seme time well un dr estand at the service and though deepening trials at the grave side wilbur and ver non rowley brothers of mrs airs ste vens sang a duet jesus lover of my soul claude robbins son eon inlaw in law sang two numbers 1 I know that my redeener redeemer redee ner lives and nd As the dew daw from distilling merrill stevens a son dedicated the grave there were many friends and relatives from far and near at tending the funeral to pay the their ir tribute to a man who all his life has been intensely active speakers at the service pointel pointed cut that he was a doer do er and that en lie he failed to stop his work ch ah the close of day but often worked far into the night high tribute was paid mr stevens as a father for the kindness and wisdom he exhibited in the rearing of his children i james edward stevens was born may 31 1876 in holden utah a son of walter and abigail holman stevens he moved with his parents at the age of four to what is now fruitland froitland Fruit land new mexico X co bein being the youngest pioneer of that s set et lement liter later he moved to bluff where he attended his first school he married annie olivia october 8 1898 in the salt lake temple they made their home for a while in blue water new mex but later moved to verdure in san juan county where they took up land mrs airs eve evens ns died in 1913 leaving four all children on september 15 10 he married mary rowley mr stevens was an active member of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints all his life he was well read and versed in church doctrine and other matters he had served a mission in his early married life and at the time of his death was serving as class instructor of his hi high h priests quorum for several years he has served as high councilman in the san juan stake ile he is survived by his h s widow two sons merrill and I 1 horace stevens both of blanding and three daughters mrs airs william C blacki black of monticello mrs arelia S stewart of powell wyoming and i mrs C claude robbins of provo in addition he has twenty three grand children and three great grand children he has two living I 1 sisters mrs abbi young of salt lake city and mrs airs en emma ima J i briddle I riddle of st george two halal half sisters and three half brothers also survive I 1 burial was at the blanding cemetery |
