Show gittons Sit tons store built around a personality I 1 anything in the wa way y of a history of this business immediately resolves itself into a history of the man who has founded and managed it noel sitton a missourian who has contributed much to the growth and develop development men t 0 of f the country since he came he here re 20 years ago its has first place of business in monticello was on the corner south of the post office he bought out the service station belonging to guy eigelberger Eagel berger in 1934 and began doing business as the sitton garage he soon added groceries and dry goods operating the bus business nass here but living in dove creek he moved to monticello in 1936 and in 1941 wilford frost bought half interest in the business which became frost and sitton mercantile in addition to petroleum products they sold hardware dry goods groceries and farm implements som building materials mote rials were also sold all during this time mr sitton ii was ras buying beans and wheat for dove creek elevators and buying and shipping cattle and hogs to the salt lake market an activity that he be has continued through the years in 1943 mr sitton had rheumatism ti so severely that he feared he would be unable to work again he sold out his interest in the business to mr frost retaining only the farm implement lines within two years he had recovered his health to such a point that he entered busin business ss again building a new building on lower main street which he called gittons Sit tons store in the new business the major lines were farm machinery feeds beans and grain he further branched out in 1947 when he built the bean and wheat elevator on highway in the east cast side of town this year also robert sitton the only son entered the business as a partner in 1948 they sold their main street building bui ding Iding moving into a new store building adjacent to their elevator having all their operations near gives them a distinct advantage the new building is spacious and large enough to adequately display their merchandise their maln man lines are international trucks minneapolis moline farm mo chinery and norge appliances they handle also various smaller lines of hardware feeds tools gas and oil plumbing supplies and even furniture mr sitton has developed a reputation for fair dealing that has won him many friends and much business he has devoted much of his time in public interests and is at the present time chairman of the board of county commissioners A typical remark from one of the sitton customers 1 I dont have to checka checkon on it with noelie noel ife will treat me just as fairly whether I 1 am there or not nort |
