Show GEORGE BARTON PASSES ASSES george franklin barton one of san sail juan countes Coun tys best known and most respected citizens died friday evening of i a cerebral hemorrhage e alter after spending t el e day in ill burning brush on oil his farm near lockerby j sir mr barton and his young j grandson joel norton find been bean working and camping campin T alone on oil the farm friday afternoon after I 1 e left joel to go for aarink of water when he did not cretu n in a reasonable len lenth length d th of time joel reasonable len length ath of time joel went vent in search of him hilli when it at lark dark lie he had not been able to find j his grandfather lie he went to spend the night with the beig bors early next morning he and ly roan man black who was farming part of the lar kanj d belonging to t e birtous Bir tons went in search of him he was found at a m slumped over the wheel of cf th the cl pickup truck where he h hid ld evi j dently gone for a short rest be fore returning to work in the field indications were that he had been dead for perhaps 14 bours before he was found george G je orge F barton was born january 27 1882 sit it manti 13 utah tali where lie spent his early youth and attended tile the public school 6 ile he attended f t e at lo 10 continued on page seven continued from page I 1 gan gall in 1901 2 3 and first came to monticello in 1908 when lie he was employed by henry wood ile he soon grew to love the iho country I 1 here and decided to stay in 1913 lie he was married to sarah perkins in the salt lake temple and they made their home in ill monticello george barton was a thorough workman vor kman and his services were in great demand lie he worked as i a blacksmith or builder and for I 1 years baled hay with the only baler balei available ile he spent more and more of his time at farming until that occupation took all of his ume except what lie he spent for the good of the public he was an all ara ardent ent church worker all his hig life and gave of his time unselfishly for the growth of this work having served in many capacities pa cities for the L D S church and at the time of his death was a high councillor in the san juan stake was one of the ward teacher supervisors and was active on several committees mr air barton has spent much time and has also spent much time and effort in other public work having served for years as justice of the peace in monticello mr air and mrs airs barton are the parents of nine children five of whom aro are living now three of the childen died at birth and a little girl audra was drowned in 1934 in the colorado river at moab funeral services were held monday at in the monticello ward chapel bishop K S summers presiding the speakers were albert R lyman C A frost and bishop summers burial was at tho the monticello cemetery surviving besides his wife are the following children mrs J wesley norton AI mrs rs wendel frost mrs airs carl mahon all of monticello mrs airs travest johnson of lockerby andl and the only son even hugh barton of Al monticello 1 1 who is serving as a missionary 1 for the L D S church in t the east central states mission I 1 eiith headquarters at louisville ky it was decided that he would not return for the funeral since he felt that the work lie he was do ing had more claim on his time than his presence here there are also 11 grand children ch illren surviving |
