Show mary M jones pioneer mother asses asses away funeral sr services vices for mary M jones affectionately calla grandma jenes were I 1 ed n the lri LE S church on tuesday afternoon at which time many came from surround ng sections to pay their last respects res pacts to one of san juans oldest po pioneers mrs jones passed her birthday on september 3 and although in declining health she was up and around until within an hour of her passing last sunday morning incidental music played by aloria foy preceded the first selection by the ladies chorus who sang some time the opening prayer followed offered by amas omas D jones of blanding anier selection by the ladies chorus entitled wonderful mother of mine was followed by the reading of a poem by claudia young a granddaughter of the deceased dedicated to mrs jones and used on her birthday party it will be published next week mrs mary J wison wilson was the first speaker she told of her long acquaintance with mrs jones were 1 I remember her many virtues her life was an open book her home an open door she was the first president of the monticello relief society and served for 22 years her husband was the first bishop of the monticello ward and together they served well she was a wonderful friend and her many benevolent acts will long be remembered A vocal duet by mrs tom taylor and mrs carroll meader of moab followed accompanied by madolyn madelyn then dan B perkins spoke he called atlen allen tion to what he termed the perfect culmination of what martyrs must endure if they are pioneers he summed up the virtues of mrs anes nes by stating that honest toil selfish service and righteous living were almost per cent personified in her life mr perkins I 1 toll told of the family life of the jones family who brought up their own 13 children and four grandchildren who were left in continued on page fo four u r MARY M JONES continued from page one their care as well in clodin closing 9 mr aid her beautiful passing I 1 harmonized with the life she lived A violin solo further emphasized sized this tribute when thomas tho mas evans accompanied J by madlyn mado yn I 1 played carrie jacob bonds immortal A perfect day albert R lyman was the next speaker and he bore testimony to what the previous speakers said and emphasized his certainty of a ife beyond as a glorious experience to which bishop and mrs jones were entitled entitle d as r result e S ul t 0 of their many acts of service to the people of their community ile he related experiences to bear out this statement and told of things they had to do to protect themselves and to maintain their standard of living wilford wilfor d frost thanked all who contributed their help in making I 1 the oc occasion casion what he termed a I 1 pleasant one since the passing of mrs jones was an occasion of more than passing interest because of the fact that she has long since been prepared and ready to pass from this life to her eternal home the many beautiful floral pieces piece s were also evidence of the love and esteem in ill which she was held closing song by the ladies chorus my peace I 1 leave with you and benediction by karl barton ended the service the following tribute was written by mrs H E blake mrs mary mackelprang jones second daughter of peter and margaret mackelprang was born sept 3 1857 and passed away suddenly on sept 22 of a heart attack mrs jones had lived a long and useful life and was loved by all who knew her she will be sadly missed not only by her family but by a host of friends mary mackelprang was united in marriage in the st george temple dec 19 1879 0 to o frederick 1 I jones they came to bluff in 1880 and later lived at verdure coming to monticello Monticell oin in 1886 to mr and mrs jones were born eleven children six of whom survive I 1 the husband and father passed away 21 years ago mrs jones was an outstanding character in the up building of monticello she is known far fai and wide for her assistance to those less fortunate than herself a cheerful person that it did ones heart good to visit the children left to mourn the passing of their loved one are F P jones mrs mary bronson mrs inez young monticello mrs ella barton verdure mrs clara nielson blanding and john jones I 1 of price there are 36 grandchildren 1 n 48 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild mrs jones was the last living member of her immediate family her brothers and sisters having all gone before her for one who has I 1 lived such a true christian life as grandma jones there is surely a wonderful reward awaiting her |
