Show pastor reports on dis recent trip one of the responsibilities of he local pastor rev howai 1 parry carry for the american Ball tit home mission society end the american baptist publication S acty was for six and one h half 4 if lears ears supervision supervise n of and the min stry through a unique type missionary equipment called a railroad chapel car the baptist de omi nation was the first to build ind operate a railroad chapel car n the pioneer days of the west rhese railroad chapel ans of vh ch two remain in active ce are located one in the state I 1 of washington and one which will be I 1 located in the state of utah during a period of ten days rev parry was called on to supervise the shifting of the chapel car grace from the railroad shop yards in denver to a defense area near the geneva steel mill close to provo the chapel car seats comfortably 65 people is equipped with I 1 an organ and accessories worship for fir two thirds of its 80 foot length the missionaries live in the remaining one third of the car which consists of a bedroom living room office and study for the worker a kitchen and well appointed facilities for serving the public the car is electrically lighted and heated by modern ai oil ia heaters during his enforced absence rev parry assisted in services in denver held a service for railroad shop men there at noon and also assisted in worship service in the provo community congregational church uncertainty of residence in defense areas much inconvenience in travel which make for uncertainty of approach to church ministry seem to characterize all continued on page 8 PASTOR REPORTS t Conti continued from page 1 types of communities large or small small despite the difficult problems connected with the war period much of enca encouragement ura gement is to be noted for church civilian and military leadership is operating cooperating co so far as is humanly possible to minister to the needs of the men and women in military service two service units the USO and the christian service mens league were visited in denver and the leadership conferred with both reporting an ap appreciative precia e response on the part of the soldier boys from the point of view of the churches our government responds in direct proportion to the PO positive constructive demands of the christian and religious forces church people need to be both united and vocal aggressively insistent upon action against the commercialized and organized forces which are having any part in demoralizing the morale of the defense forces specifically those who have been and will remain loyal to the american tradition of living and freedom from any course that would undermine the spiritual life of the millions in the service |
