Show sudden passing of charles A burr on thursday by mrs H E blake the sudden death of charlesa charles A burr on thursday june 4 was a shock to his family and friends mr burr had been a great sufferer from a stomach ailment for several years but had carried on his work as usual thursday in company with donald adams and ed stevens mr burr went to the stevens ranch to get a cow and calf while penning the animals 3 biawas aweas seen to fall and when his atan i I 1 ons got to him they found biad henad died dr bayles was called and pronounced the cause of his death a cerebral hemorrhage probably caused from over exer tion to AJ redd was assigned the unwelcome task of notifying mrs burr who was overcome by shack the news soon spread and kind and loving friends and relatives gathered at her home to off affer er consolation and assistance charles arthur burr was born september 7 1873 at payson utah a son of john A burr and martha A hancock early pioneers the father was born on the atlantic ocean when the parents were en route to america the mother was born as her parents came wes west from illinois in company with henry rose mr burr came from escalante to monticello in 1890 and since that time his home has been in san juan county he was married to alice christensen on their joint birthdays september 7 1897 the ceremony being performed by the brides father C L christensen at verdure to this union were born eight daughters and one son five of these children and the oldest grandson billie black have gone on to the great beyond beside the grief stricken widow there are left to mourn the passing of mr burr the following daughters mrs amy hansen of grass valley california mrs florine black and mrs ila cranmer of salt lake city and mrs marvel anderson of springville Spring ville also nine grandchildren and one continued on page 4 SUDDEN PASSING 0 continued front from page I 1 great grandchild two brothers albert and lester burr and one sister mrs estella kirby all of moab mr burr was a spirited man and a man who believed in justice tempered with charity he operated a sawmill near verdure for 20 years was mayor of monticello for four years served as town marshal and at the time of his passing was a deputy sheriff of the county he will be missed among his many friends both in moab and monticello services were conducted at the chapel with H L hansen in charge with the following program abide with me sung by a ladies sex opening prayer DB D B perkins lead kindly light sung by the ladies sex frank halls spoke of the sterling qualities of the deceased de ceased and especially of mr burr the individual and friend frien d of the needy and friendless A violin solo was beautifully rendered by thomas H evans I 1 A J redd spoke of C A burr as he had known him as a neighbor and friend and the high esteem he had for him H L hansen read a touching tribute of love sent to mrs burr from a granddaughter maxine fife and family wh wha were unable to be present two other granddaughters barbara black and gerry cranmer were also absent on account of illness the benediction was pronounced by clint bronson at the grave the sex sang god be with you till we mee again the grave was dedicated by C R christensen there were many b beautiful e a u t i f u I 1 flowers from friends friend 37 and relatives to pay tribute to a good citizen a fine neighbor a kind husband husban dand and loving father |
