Show UTAH PIONEER IS LAID TO REST 0 by J wesley nor norton on friends and relatives met at blanding saturday afternoon to pay last tribute to another utah pioneer mrs J W hancock who died in mancos last week funeral services were held at the blanding ward chapel with bishop rogers in charge the blanding choir furnished the music the speakers were S E slack black thomas carroll J wesley norton and jos B harris all of whom paid tribute to mrs hancock as an outstanding character she was buried in the blan blanding ding cemetery doris E black dedicating the grave jerusha irene spencer casborn was born in utah on march L 1 1865 while a 21 very small child she and a brother and sister were stricken with measles and scarlet fever which left the three of them deaf even thou though gh afflicted thus jerusha was married at eighteen to J W hancock in the st george temple ten children were born to this union five of them dying in infancy or early childhood one of these children was born in a covered wagon te n 1 aued or on page four UTAH PIONEER 0 continued from page 1 her life was not an easy one but never did she find time for complaint she spent many years in mexico with her husband and family but in due time returned i to utah and came to blanding and monticello her husband preceded her in death about 14 years most of the time since then she has lived in colorado it was in mancos at the home of her daughter abbie that she passed away on february 26 1942 she leaves behind her a record of real pioneer life many ar ai aia 5 of clothing she has knitted iy ay LZ pia yarn she herself has spun many fany the days and nights she lived it in a covered wagon many the hardships overcome by aunt jerusha and her husband her entire life stands as a beacon light to those that are left as friends as well as loved ones she leaves to mourn her passing four daughters mrs C A black of salt lake city mrs floyd nielson of pendleton oregon mrs ran E smith of mancos colorado and mrs S E black of bloomfield new mexico also a son bishop lewis A hancock of mancos she also leaves two sisters amy and mary bell carroll of salt lake city and an innumerable host of friends and other oher relatives gin |
