Show franklin J adams swept to his death in white canyon frnklin J adams well known sn sin juan cattleman met an unexpected and tragic death last saturday morning while trying to cross a turbulent rush of gatei in the white canyon near duckett camp south jf f blanding with two of his cowboy cow boy assistants ants s clyde lyman and mark fl asman an he was herding cattle i v finity and ss Ps a result of beav heavy rains the crossing at that point was dangerous being fearless however mr adams attempted to cross the stream and was caught in the swirling waters he disappeared with his horse evidently becoming unseated in the rush of water the horse reached the shore some distance beyond and mr adams was also sighted for a moment but his assi assistants stants were unable to reach him although they tried for hours to locate his body at nightfall clyde lyman returned to blanding for help and a group of ten ar or more men mea set out immediately dia tely others joined them and f foj or two days and nights they searched for the body finally locating it about four miles below the point where mr adams tried to closs cross it was necessary to carry the body back to duckett camp where it was brought to blanding d in joe Neli sons pickup pick up and prepared for burial funeral services were held in the blanding L A S church on wednesday afternoon attended by many relatives and friends some of them coming from distant points great credit is due the posse of lof fifteen men for their search through the wild uninhabited country through which they had to travel and f for or their untiring ef fort to find their friend they rel reached ached blanding about 6 a in on T tuesday morning I 1 tle e sympathy of t the e entire and of many friends 74 k 1 0 the county and state is being extended to mrs adams and other remaining relatives in this hour of bereavement franklin J adams was born in iron county utah in 1872 and settled in bluff in the year 1882 when many pioneers were finding their way to that most southern point to make their homes I 1 at the age of sixteen he began his career as a cattleman cattle man and later became known as the cattle king of the state having wide interests and gaining success with each passing year he later affiliated with the S S cat continued on page 1 4 rt r T FRANKLIN J ADAMS continued from page one tle tie co and was f in n charge of the cattle in the the southern part of the state early in life he married minnie martenson Mr tenson although she lived but two years after their marriage in 1915 he married lucy bronson who is his only close survivor since thare are no children mr and mrs adams were a devoted couple enjoying their home and each other to full extent his passing in such tragic manner bringing added suffering to his bereaved wife three brothers john fred and george adams were also well known in san juan county all having lived in monticello or blanding after they left the home site in bluff other half brothers and sisters live in parowan carowan and in other parts of the state and only recently they were brought together in a family reunion reunion franklin J adams was the only remaining son of the will adams family of bluff the three other brothers having passed on during recent years in addition to his cattle interests mr adams was engaged in mining activities at various times and only recently entered into new naw operations near blanding and on the blue mountains his loss will be felt for a long time since he was an outstanding member of his community following written for the record by florence galbraith funeral services for franklin J adams were held at the blanding ward tabernacle wednesday october ath at p m friends and relatives came from all over the country to pay their last tribute of esteem to the deceased after the opening prayer by president J B harris the choir sang tho deepening trials ernest adams sang rest rest for the weary accompanied by mamie adams bishop john D rogers then delivered a very good talk joe hunt and hyrum porter played a violin duet accompanied on the piano by mamie adams I 1 the next speaker was albert J lifelong life long friend of F J adams frank ogden of richfield was the third speaker after I 1 which loile bailey sang a lovely songs song accompanied by mrs arch bronson at the piano marvin lyman and wilford larsen of parowan carowan then spoke followed by a vocal solo by C claude robbins with mrs adams at the piano after a tribute by dan 13 perkins of monticello bp rogers spoke again endorsing all that had been said the choir then sang sometime well understand benediction was pronounced by grant L bayles the speakers paid high tribute to the exemplary life led by the deceased and spoke of the three missions in which he had bad labored the many armfuls of beautiful flowers were a token of esteem to the departed loved one the song sung at the cemetery was abide with me the grave was dedicated by walter C lyman |
