Show PIONEER CITIZEN N OF monticello DIES OF HEART AILMENT IN MOAB was very active in civic circles holding many town of offices f ices H E blake 70 for 22 years a n 1 resident of monticello Ion I 1 0 and san juan county succumbed to a heart ailment at 1230 tuesday afternoon in the moab hospital ahre he be had bad been removed late day when his condition became serious mr blake had been in failing health for the past several years but not until recently had his condition become alarming he had been active and attended to his affairs until friday of last week when it was advised that he go to bed and rest but saturday night he became quite ill and was rushed to the hospitals hospital at moab on sunday following mr blake was born july 18 1869 at sioux rapids lowa iowa his father being fletcher blake an and d his mother julia prescott blake the parents were pioneers of the northwest living mostly in wisconsin when a small boy hs his parents moved to new mexico where his father ran a lumber mill at the age of ten he delivered I 1 papers for the las vegas optic and later learned his trade in that office working there for several years on march 18 1896 at the age of 27 mr blake married miss idal ida barker at beulah N M where they made their home until the year 1907 when they moved to denver colorado and two years later moved to Green river utah in 1916 1917 he owned and operated the times independent of moab and taught L L taylor the present owner and publisher the business then in 1918 he moved with his family to monticello san juan i County where he purchased the san juan record and for about t years vears served as its owner and continued on page 13 PIONEER CITIZEN DI S OF HEART ailment AiL AT MOAB HOSPI hospital ial I 1 contin continued aed ii acm m page 1 publisher pub sher ret retiring irin to devote h time to mining interests in crests and civic activities mr blake was a prominent figure u re in san juan county serving as democratic county and for a number of years waa bounty attorney he 1 alo io 0 served as clerk of the town hoard board aal only recently resigned tl that af position early in life mr balke bake learned to spek k the S nani sabih h and acted as infer prefer for acx fex ica is s in coutt and other proceedings ce mr blakes passing will be mourned by a grat gr st mav ni nv in he was widely known juan county and his connections with w th c v V at avlo news aver affiliations and mining interests brought him n contact with a large number of friends wl wro o fr r w to love and highly respect him he was a church worker and an attentive member of the baptist church of this city n children eh ildren eo bor to mr and nl Ts blake riep of h hm m are still living all married ad bes d s his wife who also survives hm him are as follows mrs ida B westwood of moab M oab mrs ruth wilcox of Grcen Green river river mrs grace cleary brooklyn new york mrs julia juha bailey lo 10 elwyn and roger blake durango durange colo roy blake denver herbert blake of oakl oakland and calif and donald blake of bluff two sisters and one brother also survive helen and alice and cecil all of wheatridge Wheat ridge colorado and there are arc 21 grandchildren funeral aunert a services were held on thur thursday day afternoon at two in moab with the baptist m biste I 1 he rev W E parks of thai pl e in charge interment w s n the moab cemetery |
