Show mrs L H redd utah pioneer dies at salt lake mrs eliza ann westover redd a pioneer of southern bah utah died thursday at 1145 a m at her home in salt lake city 1785 herbert avenue after a long illness she was 83 years old being born in salt lake city on december 17 1854 she was the daughter of charles and eliza ann haven westover who were called by the t e L D S church to aid in colonizing dixie she was married to L H redd in in 1878 in the st george L D S temple and two years later she and her husband made a perilous journey into san juan county they had been asked by their church to build roads into this wilderness and make peace with the indians mrs redd drove ox teams during the six months it took to get there and had many narrow escapes from the indians L H redd one of the leading cattlemen of san juan county died in 1923 and since that time mrs redd has made her home in salt lake city surviving are four daughters mrs hattie R barton of blanding mrs edith lewis of san francisco mrs amy R snow of bingham and miss marion redd of salt lake city one son charles redd of la sal president of the national wool marketing corporation two brothers william westover of fillmore and lewis westover lewiston utah two sisters mrs harriet austin of santa santa cruz california and mrs minnie of los angeles twenty three grandchildren and three great grandchildren grand children funeral services were held in in salt lake city at north main turn to page 16 column four 1 L H REDD IlliNE ITINERARY continued from page one from albuquerque they drove northeast to santa fe one of the old landmarks of the west and one of the oldest towns on the pacific slope settled in 1540 and home of the historic old church of the same name from santa fe they followed highway no 2 back into colorado and returned via cortez to monticello pres redd stated that they had a delightful trip the rainy season and saw a lot of fine country that he had not visited before with many thriving cities a prosperous cotton producing belt and cattle range he stated however that due to the protracted drought range conditions were not good and that he never never saw so many poor cattle before in his life this condition however was partially due to the season of the year as cattle usually emerge from the winter stripped of their flesh mr redd made special mention of roswell N M which he stated was a fine little city with an abundance of fine artesian water and some of the largest wells extant also las cruces and socorro the former with a population of about and the latter about I 1 there are not many spots on the pacific slope from alaska to the gulf that mr redd has not visited and he is making plans to see those of significance that he has not yet inspected MRS L H REDD PIONEER P PASSES A S continued from page one street and final services were held in blanding sunday at p in all the speakers mentioned her sterling qualities and her kind ways to everyone especially the poor beautiful musical numbers were given and the services were very impressive loads of flowers were brought by loving friends and interment was in the blanding cemetery A large crowd attended the funeral A daughter in law myrtle redd read a poem of her own composition over the open grave which was dedicated by pres jos 13 harris |
