Show INDIAN OFFICIALS AND can CATTLEMEN COTO CONFER congressman colton attends electing celing of business interests and indian agents on land matters friday morning orning last lait a meeting ol oi the live stock interests of the south ern part of the county with ae officials of the navajo and ute indian tribes was held at the court house at which cengr congressman asman don B colton wai was present to help with a solution of the differences between the indians and the stockmen stoc kmen on range matters the meeting was the second meeting held the fit first it being held at blending blanding after which a tour of the lands in question had been taken the officials in attendance were C E farris representing the corn c om lined agen agencies cles of arizona new mexico utah and southwest colorado C ti L walker superintendent of the western division of the navajo reservation B P six superintendent of the northeastern astern division of the navajo reservation E J pear ore of the combined ute agencies tillman hadley interpreter with headquarters at tuba city D C Che chairman of the tribal council of the navajos cavajos Nava jos and W R johnson a missionary to the indians from fr 0 m california as well a congressman don B colton the conference came to the decision that the best for all concerned would be tie the adding of what is known as the ute strip that is all that coition of utah lying south of the san juan ju a n river to the reservation with kith thi tha understanding that the indians indans now graz grazing I 1 P g their air flocks and herds north of I 1 the river liver would move them south odthe of the river riv erand and that a fence rebuilt be built on the west line of the reserva reservation east cast of montezuma creek so that the line there would be well defined and tres spass outside bythe indians could jb better etter be taken care of the meeting also took up road mat fe fers r s anil and mr colton went ent on xeo record rd y v favoring the axtens extension lon of 0 f the natural bridge road arpad so so as to make these great scenic wonders more accessible to motorists he also promised to take the matter up with the forest service to the end that the road to the bridges which traverses the forest would be improved as it should be superintendent C L walker discussed the tuba city road suggesting that the state road to the south should be extended to the line of the reservation so that a connection could be made with any road improved within the limits odthe of the reservation aaion the control of the public domain was also alo discussed and it was recommended that tha t Us lis administration be turned over to the forest service |
