Show my aly dear friend harry with further reference to our correspondence pon dence extension of the dolores dove creek mail route to monticello I 1 have been handling this matter very vigorously with the postoffice post office department part ment and I 1 am just this morning in receipt of the following letter from the fourth assistant si postmaster Pos master general with further reference to your leter of the alt with which you a communication from mr harry V pyle of dolores colo with regard to the proposition to authorize a star route service between monticello and lockerby utah so as to provide a continuous chain of connections between monticello and dolores I 1 beg testate to state that after further consideration it has been decided to issue with three times a week frequency between monticello Montice and lockerby land and if a reasonable and properly ev eluted bid be received it is the intention to award a contract for service to begin about april 2 1919 it may be stated that the amount of the only bid received in response to the advertisement of july 16 15 1918 for the same service being at the rate of 1800 per annum was considered excessive and much more than the department part ment would be justified in paying for the desired service and unless an acceptable bid be received at a rate materially I 1 less than 1800 per annum it is not apparent that the department I 1 1 would be justified in auth I 1 1 prizing the proposed service however the time limit for the receipt of bids will expire march 18 1919 shortly after vell which you will be further adv advised pe in the premises you will note from this that they have authorized the extension of the service provi providing dinga a reasonable bid can be obtained so it is up to you people out there to see that a bid of much less than the former of 1800 is submitted you will note the limit for submitting of bids expires on march 18 1919 and aber they are open I 1 will advise you of results very cordially yours EDWARD T TAYLOR |
