Show SUGAR HOUSE SOAP BOX DERBY STUDIED The Sugar House chamber of commerce directorate voted to throw its full support behind the proposed Soap Box Derby race track program when the over all picture of the old State Prison has been painted into a lovely community park. Representatives of the Soap Box Derby met with the directors last Tuesday and explained that it is the desire of the General Motors Corporation, nationwide derby sponsors, to assist with the promotion promo-tion of the Sugar House track. It would be several hundred feet long, 50 feet wide, with grade varying from six to two per cent, and it was suggested that the finish line be situated at the site now looked on for a Sugar House community bowl. Terrain, it was reported, is entirely suitable for the construction of the concrete or hard surfaced runway. Neisen Bank, chamber president, promised full consideration of the project, and said it is hoped to include it in the park planning when such has gelled. It would be the aim of the chamber of commerce to foster and promote the derby as a community com-munity project, attracting, eventually, event-ually, the little racers from the entire intermountain area. |
