Show 'Kite Flight CONTEST SET FOR SCHOOL KIDS OF S L CO. The Salt Lake City recreation recrea-tion department announced the second annual kite contest sponsored by the department will be held Saturday, March 20 at the fairgrounds in Murray. Kite flying is said to have been developed originally by the Chinese. Legend says a Chinese general besieged by Tarters, devised this method of communicating with his far-off far-off allies. To this day, young and old, country folk and city dwellers, coolies and men of property, construct their own kites and fly them with pride on the annual festival day, the feast of ascending on high. Large and small kites, beautiful and grotesque kites float aloft during dur-ing the gala festival. . Teachers in the county schools are urged to assist the children and help create an interest in this new event. According to Paul S. Rose, superintendent, trophies will be awarded for the largest kite, smallest kite, most un- usual, most beautiful, best flying an most comical kite. All kites must be home made and made to fly. |
