Show ST. ANN ORPHAN HOME GETS NEW SISTERHOOD Sisters of the Holy Cross will end 62 years of service as administrators admin-istrators of St. Ann's Orphanage when the Sisters of the Incarnate Word take over the assignment July 25. The orphanage was started by the Sisters of Holy Cross in 1891 in an adobe building on the corner of 1st South and 2nd East. Facilities Facili-ties soon proved inadequate and in 1899 the late Senator and Mrs. Thomas Kearns built the present building. The building was constructed and presented to the Catholic Bishop of Salt Lake by Sen. and Mrs. Kearns in 1899. It has earned for the Sisters a debt of gratitude from the city and hundreds of youngsters who have found a home there. A reception was held Sunday by the descendants of the Kearns family and receiving honors were three of the 102 sisters who have devoted their time to the home. They were Sister Superior M. Alice Dorthea, Sister M. Dolorissima and Sister M. Aurea. |
