Relief Society organizations in the branches en route served the evenings and morning meals to the caravan. On the return trip, each bus presented pre-sented a program, with Sugar House chapter capturing first place with its take-off on the coronation. There were more than 1,000 persons per-sons attending the dedication ceremony cere-mony from Utah. President David O. McKay delivered de-livered the principal address and praised pioneer women as the ones who made possible the Mormon trek. "The qualities of the pioneer women were faith, spiritual knowledge know-ledge of their purpose, loyalty to their leaders and devotion to duty," he said. "This, and God's hand, carried them on in spite of the fact they were wholly unprepared for a 1,500-mile trip by foot and cart." |
