KING A record crowd of students, parents and friends of Westminster attended the annual carnival Saturday Sat-urday evening in Payne gymnasium. gym-nasium. Thirty-two students from the Intermountain Indian school at Brigham City participated in several sev-eral dances, with the colorful "Hoop dance" highlighting their exhibition. Barbara Welch, who has spent much time in the islands, and Lois Kreiser danced several hula numbers. num-bers. The leis for their costumes were flown from Hawaii. Included in the outstanding costumes cos-tumes were authentic Chinese, African tribal robe, Greek national guard and a mummy-Bob mummy-Bob McHenry was elected King of Mirth and was ably assisted by President J. Richard Palmer, who came dressed as a court jester. Foods of many countries were sold at booths arranged throughout through-out the hall and proved to be one of the attractions of the Mardi Gras affair. The booths were arranged ar-ranged by the students and the German booth was awarded first prize. Bill Gold, president of the language lan-guage club, was in charge of arrangements ar-rangements for the gala event and the spokesman at the college said much credit for the success of the affair goes to Bill. Proceeds from the carnival will provide a fund for a student scholarship schol-arship for foreign travel and study. |
