Show Lecturer To Talk At Phi Beta Kappa Utahn's are invited to hear a noted Harvard lecturer and author present the traditional Phi Beta Kappa lecture for 1956, Nov. 17 on the University of Utah campus. Dr. Kenneth Ballard Murdock the Francis Lee Higginson, professor profes-sor of English literature at Harvard will deliver the heralded lecture Nov. 17 at 8:15 p.m., in the Orson Spencer Hall auditorium. In announcing Dr. Murdocks visit this week, Dr. William Mulder, Mul-der, director of the Institute of American Studies at Utah said the lecture will be open to the public without admission charge. Dr. Murdocks subject will be "Some European Attitudes Toward American Amer-ican Culture." On Nov. 16 Dr. Murdock will speak at the first annual English Department banquet in the New-house New-house Hotel. Faculty and students stu-dents of the department will hear him discuss the topic "What is a ; Scholar and Why Be One?" He has distinguished himself as an ambassador of American culture cul-ture in Europe, through lecture tours of England and the Scandinavian Scandi-navian countries. In recognition of his contribution, contribu-tion, the University of Uppsala in Sweden in 1950 awarded him an honorary doctorate and Sweden decorated him a Knight of the Order of the North Star. |
