House Rotarians Rotary Clubs in 99 countries throughout the free world are united in an endeavor to promote international understanding, good will and peace. That will be the message of Richard L. Evans of Salt Lake City, Governor of District Dis-trict 165 of Rotary International, in addressing the Rotary Club of Sugar House today, following a conference with local Rotary officers of-ficers and committee chairmen. The group will meet at the Beau Brummel. President J. Gordon Sorensen will conduct the meeting. Mr. Evans will conduct tne annual an-nual "club assembly" following the general meeting, where reports of committee activities will be given. In addition to the activities of Rotary's 9,100 Clubs within their own communities to promote this objective, Mr. Evans will explain, Rotary International has spent more than $2,000,000 in recent years through its program of student stu-dent fellowships, which enable outstanding out-standing college graduates to study for one year in countries other than their own, as Rotary ambassadors of good will. Since 1947, when this program was established, 834 Rotary Fellowships have been awarded to students in 61 countries for study in 40 countries. "With fellowship and service to others as its keynote, Rotary provides pro-vides a common ground for 431,000 business and professional executives execu-tives throughout the free world, re. gardless of differing nationalities or political or religious belief," the Rotary District Governor emphasized. empha-sized. "In addition to the promotion of international understanding," Mr. Evans continued, "special emphasis is being placed by Rotary Clubs in this District, which includes 42 Rotary Clubs in the Utah-Idaho area (including southwestern Wyoming." Mr. Evans, among other questions ques-tions to be discussed, will urge the Sugar House Rotary Club to be well represented at the Rotary District Dis-trict Conference to be held in Salt Lake City in March, 1957 and to make plans for the Club to be represented rep-resented at the 48th Annual Convention Con-vention of Rotary International, which will be held in Lucerne, Switzerland, next May. |
