Show THE TAX BURDEN IN RELATION TO UTAH'S ECONOMY RELATIONSHIP OF TAXES TO UTAH'S ECONOMY Federal, state, and local taxes and fees paid by Utahns during the fiscal 1 year ended June 30, 1951 amounted to more than $300 million. This tax bur-; bur-; den exceeds the entire income of resi- dents of the State for any year prior , to 1941. Based on an estimated 1951 I Utah population of 708,000, total taxes I fa Utah represent $426 for every man, 1 woman, and child residing in the State, i In 1929, federal, state, and local taxes 1 in Utah amounted to about $71 per person. Mineral production, agricultural production, pro-duction, and the value added to mate- i rials by the manufacturing process are the principal sources of new wealth in Utah. Preliminary figures and estimates place the total wealth created by min-; min-; ing, agriculture, and the manufacturing process during 1951 at $634 million. During the 1951 fiscal year, Utah's Federal, state, and local taxes and fees amounted to approximately 34.2 of the State's total income payments to Individuals. Indi-viduals. This was the highest percentage percent-age of income for taxes since the ''war years 1944 through 1946. In 1951, Federal, Fed-eral, taxes were 23.1, state taxes were 6.2, and local taxes were 4.9 of the total individual income of Utahns. Government has become a larger "business" in Utah than either mining, manufacturing, or agriculture. Taxes paid by Utahns are greater than the wealth created in the State by either mineral production, manufacturing, or agricultural production. More persons are employed by governmental units (Federal, state ,and local) than are engaged en-gaged in any one of the state's commercial commer-cial activities. During 1951, taxes equated 47.6 of the combined wealth created in Utah by mining, manufacturing, manufactur-ing, and agriculture. VALUE OF MINERAL PRODUCTION. AGRICULTURAL MARKETINGS.
