Show Skousen Stressed Need of Larger Police Force Commended Businessmen at Meet . ' N :::' W. Cleon Skousen, Salt Lake City Police Chief, reported he had asked for 69 new officers for the police department, just half the number the recent Smith survey suggested for a city of this size, when he spoke at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon Wednesday noon. "If granted," Chief Skousen said, "Sugar House will be substantially strengthened." He voiced much appreciation of the support the men on the force had given him and especially the Sugar House staff. In discussing the youth problem of the city he pointed out it was the best policy to correct youth rather than to punish later and with the enforcement of the curfew and other measures the department was making great strides in correcting cor-recting many problems. He placed much of the responsibility of the actions of youth on the parents. In mentioning the traffic condition, condi-tion, which has plagued the city for years, he complimented the Sugar House business men for their farsightedness far-sightedness in. the off-street parking park-ing program, which has allowed traffic to flow more evenly through Sugar House.
