Show SEE-SAW j Well, sir, there's dissension in the ranks of the Salt Lake Real Estate Board perhaps outright rebellion. Seems the board's president and a paid executive officer took it on themselves to try to sabotage plans for a Mormon Pioneer village vil-lage on part of the old state prison site. But their action did not set well with many of the rank and file members of the realty board, some of whom have protested aloud, and others plans to file publicly a petition of protest. On the flimsy grounds that the entire prison site (less the few acres allotted for a new Sugar House high school) should be used purely for recreaton, the real estate es-tate board bossmen would like to scuttle the idea of the Pioneer memorial. Of course, as this column pointed point-ed out an issue or so ago there is recreation in culture and education edu-cation as well as in teeter-totters and swings. And the few acres allotted for Pioneer lore preservation will provide pro-vide a more and varied form of recreation than would the sand piles and slippery slides of a playground. play-ground. The memorial also would be one of Utah's better tourist attractions and certainly a brightly educational educa-tional project for Utah's own citizens, citi-zens, young and old alike. |
