Show Food Talk Recipes & Chatter by Fern Thomas Hi Neighbor! Take mealtime out of the doldrums dol-drums with a clear gelatin dessert molded atop a whipped gelatin base. Pretty and easy to make, it's just the sparkling touch to add magic to late-winter menus. A frosty whipped gelatin makes a handsome dessert, too, even if you do not have a fancy mold. Just follow the recipe below. Clear red and whipped pink gelatin makes eye-tempting layers when molded in a baking pan, bowl or individual custard cups. FROSTY PINK GELATIN 1 package vitamin-C gelatin, cherry flavor 1 cup hot water cup cold water Dissolve gelatin in hot water. Add cold water. Pour half of the gelatin into a mold and place in the refrigerator to chill. Chill remaining re-maining gelatin in bowl until it begins to thicken, until it is a little thicker than beaten egg white. Whip with rotary beater until frothy and thick like whipped cream. To shorten whipping time, set the bowl in a pan of cracked ice while whipping. Pile whipped gelatin gel-atin lightly into a mold on top of plain gelatin. Chill until firm. Un-I Un-I mold. Makes 8 servings. |
