Show Sugar House to Note 99th Birthday In Gay Festival The 99th anniversary of the founding of Sugar House will be celebrated cele-brated Thursday, April 23, on the Plaza, S. Morgan Sorensen, committee chairman, reported" this week. day, and the gay program will begin at 7 p. m. Thursday in the Plaza. The Sugar House chamber of commerce band will play a concert and a program of entertainment will be staged for an hour. At 8 o'clock Thursday memorial services will be conducted in honor of the Pioneers who 99 years ago settled on old Parley's creek. Their descendants and families will be honored, and served birthday cake, a huge dessert which will be candled and sliced and served on the Plaza by the queenly attendants attend-ants of Miss Sugar House. Among the prominent pioneer families who will be included in the celebration ceremonies are the Charles Chrismon, Charles Decker, Albert Perry Rockwood, ,A. O. Smoot and Ira Eldredge. A tuneful square dance festival will be staged immediately following follow-ing the memorial rites. Fireworks will be the climactic event of the eventful celebration, Chairman Sorensen said. Sugar House will get its official spring cleaning the morning of the celebration day, to be in spic and span order for the gay occasion, he said. A kick-off breakfast, sponsored by the Sugar House chamber of commerce for executives and community com-munity leaders, will be called to order Wednesday, April 22,- at 8 j). m. The clean-up campaign and the final arrangements for the celebration cele-bration will be mapped at the breakfast. Beginning at 8 a. m. Thursday the Sugar House fire fighting equipment will be used to sluice off the streets, and four groups of merchants and businessmen will be assigned to the tasks of clean up the entire Sugar House business district. Store fronts and windows will be washed down and fresh paint will be applied to brighten up -the area, John DeHaan, clean-up chairman, chair-man, reported. Young women, dressed in Dutch costumes to lend authenticity to the "Dutch Treat" theme, will scrub off the sidewalks"and others will provide healthful and sustaining sustain-ing refreshments for the clean-up workers.
