Show GOC VHITLOCK YARN 111 HATL. MAGAZINE Dr. H. L. "Doc" Whitlock was honored with a feature in the February Feb-ruary issue of American magazine. The prominent and colorful Sugar House personality is seen every day on the rinks of Hygia Iceland, and usually manages to spin circles around all other skaters. Doc was 99 the past week, and would like to compete on skates with anyone his own age! The spry, retired dentist when not streaking across the rink, himseif, keeps busy on the sideline side-line giving skating instruction to youngsters. He began his skating at the age of 5 in Glasgow, Scotland. Scot-land. And at the age of 5G, in the United States, he won second prize in a roller skating derby. He has taken lessons from 42 teachers and has given lessons to several times that many students. Skating, he says, is a wonderful body builder, developes not only the legs, but a whole system of balance and coordination, co-ordination, using muscles which otherwise would be dormant. But the most important thing is . . . the fun. He is also an expert horseman and owns two Arabians. |
