James Cannon was elected executive secretary of the Sugar Su-gar House Chamber of Commerce this week, according to A. W. "Mickey" Hart, president. The chamber board submitted Mr. Cannon's name to the members at their regular monthly meeting last Tuesday, after it had been passed upon by the board. Final arrangements were made Thursday between the board and Mr. Cannon. He will begin his service with the chamber on March 1, Mr. Hart announced. OFFICIAL ORGAN At the same meeting, chamber members named The Sugar House Bulletin as its official organ,, Mr. Cannon will edit The Bulletin in addition to his duties as executive secretary. He began be-gan his service with this community newspaper in June, 1946. In October of that year, he, with Richard W. James, purchased The Bulletin Publishin g Company from Theodore L Cannon. LaMar P. Busath became a director of the corporation in October, 1947. SECRETARY D. James Cannon was named executive execu-tive secretary of Sugar House Chamber of Commerce Com-merce Tuesday. For the past year, Mr. Cannon has been doing feature writing for The Deseret News. His wife, Elaine Cannon, is teen edit. or for the News. They, with their four children, live at 2610 E. 29th South. Mr. Cannon also serves as bishop of the Highland High-land View L. D. S. Ward. He. is the son of Mrs. Sylvester Q. Cannon, 29 South State, and the late Apostle Cannon. LONG-FELT NEED Chamber members expressed enthusiasm at the Tuesday meeting for the executive secretary sec-retary plan, pointing out that Sugar House has felt a need for such an arrangement foi a long time. Many projects,, they said, have been left unfinished un-finished or untouched because there was no one in an executive execu-tive position who could follow through with them. Board members expressed appreciation ap-preciation to Mrs. Ora Egan, who has been serving as office secretary for more than two years. "Mrs. Egan has been very faithful in the performance of her duties," Mr. Hart said. "We release her with a sincere vote of thanks." In addition to office duties. Mr. Cannon will worjk with chamber committees in the furtherance fur-therance of their projects and aid in the planning and promotion promo-tion of the community. |
