"When you see a fireman wandering down the street looking look-ing up at buildings, down alleys, and up and down streets almost w like a lost sheep, don't be alarm-r' alarm-r' ed," advises Capt. J. E. Goalen ' of the Sugarhouse fire station. "In all probability he is on an "'' - inspection tour. He is locating alleys, areaways, streets, and fire hydrants; sizing up buildings-and buildings-and contents to plan the best method of attacking a fire wherever and whenever one should start." Tht local firemen are "fire conscious at all times," according to the captain." Even when they are out on a Sunday ride in their own cars with their wives and families they' will usually head for their own 'fire district to look over pew 'building 'build-ing projects . . . streets . . .and fire hydrants." "When you see a fireman doing do-ing these things, in all probability probabili-ty he is sizing up buildings and contents to plan (in his own mfind, at least) the best method meth-od of attacking a fire wherever it starts in the basement, top floor, front or rear ... or anywhere any-where in between. He is estimating esti-mating the kind, length and number of ladders that may have to be used; what streets, area-ways, area-ways, alleys and fire plugs would be available for his use. Would the fire be likely to communicate to surrounding property. Where would be could bese attack the first first to confine and then extinguish it? Would the occupants occu-pants be able to escape in time? Your firemen are fire conscious and make It a daily habit to make inspections like this." This interesting information ' from Capt.
