Show Centennial News of the Teek Centennial Events Top Entertainment Tlie Centennial climax has been reached but almost three months of interesting anti-climax events are still to come. Gus P. Backman, Centennial director, puts it like this: "Since last January the Centennial has been gradually climbing uphill toward the peak days which came on July 23 and 24. Along the route there were interesting stops plays, pageants, sports events and county celebrations. Now we are going down the hill and the descent is going to be 1 just as gradual as the ascent. Along the way there will be plenty of exciting things for the citizenery to see and do all over the stae." Centennial Exposition Open Until September 20 The gigantic Centennial Exposition Ex-position at the State Fair Grounds in Salt Lake City will continue until September 20th with an ever changing array of top notch attractions. The big show coming up will begin next Monday when Bobby Ward and his Sky Devils present a death j defying array of airplane acts in front of the mammoth grandstand. grand-stand. "The Promised Valley," the Centennial's hit musical show, will continue to play at the University Uni-versity of Utah stadium except Sundays until August 9. The show stars Alfred Drake fof "Oklahoma" fame and Jet McDonald, Mc-Donald, brilliant young singer from the Broadway firmament of stars. Great Sports Program The sports program will continue con-tinue in increasing volume throughout the autumn. On August Au-gust 15, at 5:30 a ,m., John Cobb, English auto speedster and holder hold-er of the world record at 3G9 miles per hour, will make an effort ef-fort to break this record. On August 18 Ab Jenkins, former mayor of Salt Lake City and holder of almost every automobile automo-bile driving endurance record, will take to the Salt-Flats in an effort to b,-eak all the present endurance .ecords. Both of these runs are subject to weather weath-er conditions. The L'. S. Horseshow meet, with expert horseshoe pitchers j from all over the world com- peting, will be held in Murray I from August 27 until August 30 inclusive. Western Open Golf Tourney The Western Open Golf Championships Cham-pionships will be held at the Salt Lake Country Club from August 29 through Sept. 1 with the leading golfers in the nation plus South Africa's Bobby Locke shooting fur R12,500 worth of prizes. Throughout the fall there will be various big football games played tinder the Centennial sponsorship. Tlie first of these games will be between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Chicago Chi-cago Riickets at the University of Utah stadium on August 23. The high school Al.-Star game will be on August 30. Rodoes Galore And all over the state there will lie big local celebrations. The Price Rodeo is July 31 to August 2, the Vernal Rodeo from August 7 to Augu-t '). the I.cL'an Rodeo from Au'-'u-t '.', to Vi, and the Murray I'edeo from August 27 to Augu-t 30.
