Show Selective Service Production, transmision, and distribution of electric power today to-day were listed as essential to tne war effort by National Headquarters, Headquar-ters, Selective Service System, in a memorandum to its State Agencies Agen-cies in which it recommended some claims for occupational deferment de-ferment of persons engaged m any of 86 critical occupations in these activities. In its memorandum, National Headquartere said that production, produc-tion, transmission and distribution distribu-tion of power are vital to the war effort in that these activities are responsible for generation and distribution of power essential for industrial needs in addition to providing illumination, heating, and refrig3ration for general consumption. con-sumption. While announcing shortages in some critical occupations in' the electric power industry, National Headquarters emphasized that the question of deferring any individ-iual individ-iual registrant must be decided by his local board on the facts concerning his individual case and conditions in the local b.ard area. No group or class deferments defer-ments for occupational reasons are permited under the Selective Training and Service Act for the electric industry or any other industry, in-dustry, it was pointed out; no deferment de-ferment can be made for a period longer than six months, and any deferment is revocable at any time the status of the registrant is changed.
