Show DUP States New Paper Drive A drive to collect waste paper pa-per was launched Monday in Salt Lake City by the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Salt Lake residents are asked to place their old magazines and newspapers news-papers in boxes or bundles and stack them in piles at the nearest near-est intersection. The waste paper pa-per will be picked up on regular garbage collection days by two trucks of the Spafford Waste Paper Company, to whom the DUP will sell the paper. Profits' from the drive will go to meet operating expenses of the DUP, explained Mrs. Ensign Smith, chairman of the committee commit-tee in charge. "We're trying it out for three months," Mrs. Smith said. "If we can get enough paper to make it pay, the drive will continue." con-tinue." The last DUP waste paper drive, which ended in February, helped finance the publication of "Tales of a Triumphant People," Peo-ple," Salt Lake County DUP history released during the Utah centennial year 1947. Mrs. Smith said the Salt Lake County company DUP chapter plans to honor during the next few months, more than 300 native na-tive pioneers born before 1869. |
