Show Melvin Wright Named State Polio Chief Melvin B. Wright, prominent southeast resident, 4931 Marilyn ? '''. POLIO CHAIRMAN Melvin Mel-vin B. Wright, prominent South East resident has been named chairman of newly-organized state polio committee. Dr. (2200 East), Monday was named chairman of the newly-organized newly-organized Utah State Polio Committee. Mr. Wright is a director di-rector of Lions International and Radio Station KSL's chief audio engineer. Parry E. Thomas, manager, new accounts department, Continental Con-tinental National Bank and Trust Co., was named treasurer of the committee following a meeting at Utah offices of the National Foundation for Infantile Infan-tile Paralysis. The newly created committee will replace the polio emergency emergen-cy committee, which after four years' existence, was dissolved Oct. 18 by Utah State Depart-men Depart-men tof Health. Aids Oragnizatioa L. C. Haughey, New York, assistant as-sistant treasurer of the national foundation, said his organization organiza-tion had been notified last Monday Mon-day of the termination of the emergency committee, and had asked him to aid in setting up a new organization to insure hospital and medical care for Utah polio victims. The new committee will be comprised of representatives from each region of the state, and will be named by local chapters. Mr. Wright, long active in Lions Club service, received the international service award in 1948. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he has been prominent in Mutual Improvement Association Asso-ciation work, and other church affairs. U. of U. Graduate Mr. Thomas, a one-time resident resi-dent of Ogden, is a graduate of University of Utah and a member mem-ber of Salt Lake City Junior Chamber of Commerce. He saw service in the European theater during World War II. |
