Show Hoiladay 'Driver of the Year' Wins Honcr in National Contest Utah's "driver of the vear-' for 1949, Marvin C. Hess, of Holla-day, Holla-day, received further honors Monday when he was awarded honorable mention in the national na-tional contest to select the safest driver of 1949. M'r. Hess, father of eight children chil-dren and for five years a truck driver for Pacific Intermoun-tain Intermoun-tain Express, was cited for his perfect safety record last year, and in addition his outstanding rescue work, credited with saving sav-ing the life of a California tourist. tour-ist. Saves Ijife Mr. Hess found the tourist, Ira C. Hardy of San Francisco, pinned under his overturned car 12 miles east of Wells, N'ev., last July. He released the vie- , tim. administered first aid and rushed him to medical help, thereby saving the man's life. Winner of the national contest, con-test, sponsored by the American Trucki:ng Association, and named driver of the year was Lloyd Reisner of Indianapolis, Ind., credited- with saving the life of a nine-year-old girl. Others accorded honorable mention along with Mr. Hess were Harold Wescott of Peoria, 111., James W. Payne of Oklahoma Okla-homa City, Okla., and Raymond Cornell of Minneapolis Minn. |
