Show ON THE HOME FRONT Patience and tolerance by the the buying public for whom the sweeping price control program is being placed in operation was urged this week by Clem M. Collins, Col-lins, regional director of the office of price administration. Americans will recognize that the over-all ceiling on prices is their protection against the rising cost of living, Mr. Collins said. "In the long run, the success of the program requires the complete com-plete cooperation of the consumer, Collins declared. The housewife and the shopper can help by Naming Nam-ing how price ceilings will operate and by showing patience whu'e a program so vast is getting under un-der way." "The regulations impose many novel and difficult burdens cm the retailers and their suppliers. Shoppers should realize that by the eighteenth of May every retailer re-tailer must re-price his merchandise merchan-dise in keeping with the price regulations, reg-ulations, and after May 18 he can not make sales above the ceiling. This is a tremendous task, especially espec-ially for small merchants whof records may be incomplete. ' . "The consumer on the other hand, has no problem. The Government, Gov-ernment, by established price ceilings, ceil-ings, is doing a job for the consumer con-sumer he or she could not do alone. But the consumer hag an obvious duty to become familiar with the basic provisions of the price regulations. During the first few weeks after af-ter May 18 it's pnly to be expec " that there will be may perplex ing questions, and there will ' be many instances of disagreement between customer and seller over ov-er prices. These are inevitable even when the retailor has established estab-lished his ceiling prices in strict keeping with the rules set down. "When disagreement arises, the shopper and the seller should get together and see if they can not reach a common understanding Only after that has been done and the shopper has facts to warrant war-rant a conclusion that price regulations reg-ulations are being violated should the matter be reported to enforce ment officials." |
