Show Verdi's Opera On KSL-TV April 5, 9 P.M. Of interest to those who enjoy en-joy the opera in its most enjoyable en-joyable form' over television, where it may be seen as well as heard an ail-American cast will sing one of the greatest of Italian operas, Verdi's "La Trav-iata," Trav-iata," over KSL-TV, Wednesday, Wednes-day, April 5 at 9 p.m. Sung in English, it will be presented by CBS' Opera Television Theater. Star of the show will be baritone bari-tone Lawrence Tibbett who will sing the role of Germont, the father, one of the "parts he has made famous during his operatic oper-atic career. Mr. Tibbett, born in Bakersfield, Calif., and a member of the Metropolitan Opera for more than 25 years, has long favored opera sung in English. It is at his request that "La Traviata' is being presented pre-sented in translation. Brooklyn born Elaine Mal-bin Mal-bin will be seen at Violetta, a debut in the role for the 19-year-old soprano. This KSL-TV special feature musical will be presented in its entirety, having a broadcast duration du-ration of 83 mintues. |
