Show DOING THE TOWN ... By Elaine A. Cannon Sa-a-ay, that was some musical treat at the Granite High :school Teusday night, wasn't it? Too bad more of you townspeople towns-people couldn't have been in attendance at the "Night in Old Vienna" production presented under the auspices of the Granite Arts Association. For those of you who couldn't make it or wlho aren't fortunate to have a season membership in the association, asso-ciation, take a look at who was there. (The criticism' of the music we leave to some more gifted soul.) As we speak softly of our own ability at musical criticism, we speak loudly of Dr. Lowell Durham who is 'bout the best critic in these parts that we know of. Lowell and his very lovely wife, Betty, left their two young' 'uns home with a sitter in order to participate in this, musical feast. Dr. Burbidge took us back stage to meet Mona Bradford, the radiant brunette contralto and soprano Laura Castellano. Saw Mr. and Ms. Jack Thomas giving their praise to John Gurney, Tasso, and Richard Gordon, tenor. The cute little high school coeds who served as ushers for the evening surrounded Eduardo Ttael, baritone, to get his autograph. Apparently Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Jelesnik are very friendly with the musical director of the program, Warner Bass, because after numerous curtain calls the Jelesniks whisked pianist Bass away in a cab. Mrs. Jelesnik was wearing another of her chic nats . . . this one was mDss green banded with gold ribbon studn ded with jewels. Lodge patrons . . . Prof, and Mrs. P. William Peterson discussing dis-cussing Mr. Gurney's interpretation of Orlovsky's song "Chacun a son gout" from "Rosalina" . . . Werner and Karine Kiepe liked "Vienna Dreams," a medley of Vienna's most famous melodies, the best. Mrs. Kiepe's new spring hat was sheer red straw, turban tur-ban style. Mrs. Robert Barnes and Mrs. Joseph Smith III exchanged ex-changed hellos with Mrs. Wayne F. Richards. Mrs. Barnes wore all black while Mrs. Smith sported a smart grey stripe suite and black accessories. Must say a word about Mrs. Richard's apple .crowned roller . . . navy blue with a saucy feather in front and she wore it squarely on the back of her feather cut. We didn't get a front view of Bud Minor's date, so we can't tell you who sheis. . We can tell you this, though, from the back her soft chignon was flattering. Mr. and Mrs. Hill Lee and Mr. and Mrs. Rock Kirkham took turns giving Dr. Burbidge the proverbial pat on the back as a gesture of appreciation on their part for the splendid work he has done with the Arts series this season. ' .' And just to show you how worthwhile the event was, Mr. J and Mrs. F. A. Johnson 'drove in from Murray with Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Sleater. ' The Whole affair wis excellent and made doubly enjoyable by the sweet young things from Granite High who served as ushers in their flowing formals . . . namely: Kayleen Huffman, Dawn Bennion, Charlene Lloyd, Maurine Bentley, Margrett Hansen, Han-sen, Pauline Omer, Glennice Christensen, Catherine Baggaley, and Elizabeth McDonald. |
